Jaecoo NZ has confirmed its all-new J5 SUV will arrive in New Zealand with a highly equipped, single EV variant.

Landing in dealerships late January, the J5 EV comes standard with a wide array of features that will appeal to Kiwi buyers, especially those with a fur baby.

The pet-friendly synthetic leather is made of a special silicone-based material, which is antibacterial and wear-resistant. Not only is it more durable, but it’s also easier to clean.

Sustainable driving meets everyday performance

Underneath the skin, the J5 utilises a single electric motor, producing 155kW/288Nm, with power sent to the front wheels.

This allows effortless overtaking with a 0-100km acceleration time of 7.7 seconds, while having an electric energy consumption of only 143Wh/km.

Range anxiety is a thing of the past with the J5 able to travel up to 402km (WLTP) and can be charged from 30-80% in 28 minutes via a DC fast charger.

Maximum Towing Mass for a non-braked trailer is also 750kg.

Designed for adventure

There’s no hiding the J5’s adventurous spirit. Its rugged exterior takes design elements from off-roading icons and combines it with Jaecoo’s signature style to create a truly unique SUV.

This includes a rear lightbar that stretches across the boot with Jaecoo lettering, an EV specific front grille with active aero, slimline headlines, sloping roofline and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the designers have taken a minimalist approach that results in a clean yet functional interior.

Highlighted by an intuitive 13.2-inch touchscreen that controls things such as air conditioning, digital radio, vehicle settings plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Advanced Safety

Like all Jaecoo products, the J5 is equipped with the latest and greatest safety features to best protect all onboard occupants.

This includes passive safety like 7 airbags, while there’s also a long list of advanced safety systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW).

Growing international success

This has been assisted by a growing model lineup with the J5 EV selling out in Thailand and taking the top spot for BEV November sales, while in Indonesia the car received 6000 preorders in just two weeks.

The J5 has also won "Best SUV" from Chilean media outlet Ruta Motor and the EV variant received "Car of the Year 2025" at the Thailand Motor Expo.
